The lighthouse at Formentor, Mallorca

The background shows sidewalk tiles - "rajoles" - that pave the sidewalks throughout Barcelona. They were designed by architect Puig i Cadafalch for the entryway of a home. Since 1915, they have been used by the city to pave sidewalks, and have become emblematic of the city. One of the city's most famous chocolatiers, Enric Rovira, produces chocolate bars in the shape and design of these tiles.

Barcelona Stake Conference

The Barcelona Stake conference was held on 23-24 October. Unfortunately, we still do not have an occupancy permit for the new stake center, so the Sunday meeting was held in a rented auditorium in Cornellá as in the past.
One of the highlights of the conference was the sustaining of 13 brethren to receive the Melchizedek Priesthood. Among the 13 was Hno. Marcos from Mataró, a recent convert. Marcos had been chatting on line with a member of the Church and sent a email a couple of months ago to the mission asking if there were missionaries who could come to his home and teach him more!

  1. Hey, for those of us who aren't in Spain now, could we see some pics of the new stake center in barce? And was there going to be a dist. center too or something? Just curious. Merci!!!

  2. Unfortunately I have no photos of the new stake center, but trust me - it is beautiful. It is located just a few steps away from the San Marti metro stop and includes a full size basketball court, stage, a high council room, a beautiful marble baptistry, and a third-floor terrace! There will not be a distribution center - this is handled centrally in Frankfurt.

Once we receive the occupancy permit and begin using it, we will post some photos. The building will house the stake as well as the Barcelona 1st and 3rd wards. There is some discussion about having the Badalona Ward also use the building as their current building is inadequate. So the good news is the building will be a capacity the day it opens! Now we need to get a few more new buildings to accomodate the growth in the area...

  4. Thanks for the picture of Marcos, he is truly a wonderful convert. May the Lord continue to bless the wonderful saints in Spain by allowing them to finally attend their new stake center and that the mission may receive all of their allocated missionaries.

  5. That's all fantastic! I just looked up what google maps has to offer... just an empty building plot and the sign out front with a rendering of the finished product. I'm really impressed at the size we're dealing with! Having been stuck in bajos all the time this building is kinda a big deal. :) And of course it's good to see some Mataro boys. I was born there in Summer '07.
